Adventure Weekends…

Been thinking I should have gucci weekend plans in my back pocket for when I have a weekend free. Used to do this all the time because I was living in a dull ass flat just outside Slough, so of course you would try to stay away! Also used to do quite a bit of long challenge walks, or just random trips to places I’ve not been. Thought I’d put a few ideas together. Here’s a list I’ve come up with, let me know what you think…

  1. RYA get started sailing Level 1 weekend at a centre
  2. Coast to Coast Walk – done from St Bees to Grasmere, would be great to do the next few days. Probably will be at least 4 days worth here, plus travel on train and bus up and back
  3. Visit Ireland – Been to Dublin a few times but would love to spend a few days in the wilds further West. May try to convince the youths to do their Gold D of E there …
  4. Circumnavigation of the Peak National Park – will probably take over a week if doing it properly. I like just making up routes as you find totally different people and places than sticking to the tourist routes
  5. Caledonian Canal – Would love to be good enough to sail this. Will have to convince my fab missus to get her boat up to spec so we can do this trip.
  6. Wilderness Trip – been to the Knoydart Peninsula, West of Fort William in Scotland but even that remote place isn’t totally remote. Would be great to do a multi day wild camp somewhere totally remote. I suspect a good place would be South from An Teallach through to the Kinlochewe Forest. Probably a 4-6 day trip, and you’d have to carry all in and out again
  7. West Highland Way – again more than a couple of days! LOL
  8. River Wye trip – did this once before, would be good to do it again
  9. Trent or Thames source to tidal trip – Probably 3-5 days each
  10. Bike Trip – Edale to Home. Should probably complete this in a single very long day. Can get the train to the start
  11. Owain Glyndwr’s Way and Offa’s Dyke section – quite a bit of history through scenery in mid wales, again probably a couple of weeks, circular if you include a bit of Offa’s Dyke (another fine, fine walk)
  12. Jubilee Way in London – mainly to stop off at everything that looks vaguely interesting along the way
  13. Wilderness Survival course – I know a lot about shelter building, and have started bivvying, but would be good to develop my own kit and practice all skills I’d need

Anyone got any other ideas? Doesn’t have to be walking…
